I can't speak for ice9freak, but mine was an immediate, honest and, yes, slightly sarcastic response. I've never been able to wrap my head - and heart - around Brent and his 'additions' to the band. Having been an avid fan and supporter of the Dead for over ten years - on vinyl, tapes and live - before Brent came on board, the shock of hearing those godawful toy piano sounds and his vocals made my heart sink. We kept wondering why the Dead were seemingly mining the Black Oak Arkansas farm clubs for a Keith (and, yes, Donna) replacement . . . i'll never understand why they chose him over countless other options - and why they kept him on-board as long as they did. Then, and in retrospect, now, I always found him to be more of a buzz-kill than a welcome addition to one of my favorite bands.

I never cared for Brent's vocals, and I found many of his songs bitter and misogynistic - and to that end, I find it odd how he could garner so many female followers. To his credit, there were moments where his talents did become obvious - his B-3 and his acoustic piano playing at times were just what the doctor ordered - but those moments were rare in my book.
